Before you commit

The practical questions directors ask us.

What do you need from us to get started?

A 30-minute call and a short questionnaire, plus the things only you have: your SSIP and ISO certificates, insurance schedule, Constructionline and trade membership details, photos from recent packages and a few notes on the work you are proudest of. We ask for these on day one because they are the only thing that can slow a six-week build.

What about hosting and the domain?

Both are included free for the first year: fast, secure UK hosting with an SSL certificate, and your domain registered in your name. Before the year is up we tell you the renewal cost, and you are free to renew with us or move them elsewhere. If you already have a domain, we use it, and it stays yours throughout.

Will we lose our Google rankings if you rebuild the site?

No. We launch on your existing domain and redirect every old page that ranked to its new equivalent, so the history you have built carries over. Most sites gain visibility after launch because the new pages finally match what buyers search for.

Can we edit the website ourselves after launch?

Yes. Sites are built on WordPress, so you can change text, add photos or update an accreditation renewal yourself. Many clients prefer to leave it to the monthly plan, which adds a new page or case study each month and keeps your credentials current online.

Can you take over our existing website or Google Ads account?

Yes. We start with the free check to see what is worth keeping. If your site is sound, the Foundations Sprint or the monthly plan can improve it without a rebuild. For Google Ads we work inside your own account, so the history and data are always yours.

How do you measure results?

Calls, forms and tender enquiries are tracked from launch, rankings are checked for your trades and regions, IP tracking shows which companies visited your site, and each month we test whether ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI name you for the questions your buyers ask. You get it all on one page every month, in plain English: what moved, what produced work and what we are doing next.

We are a ten-person firm working for one or two main contractors. Is this worth it for us?

Often more so. When your main contractor bids a job, its procurement team scores the supply chain it puts forward, and your website is part of that evidence. A site with accreditations a buyer can verify, case studies written like PQQ answers and a tender route gets you put forward more often and makes you findable when a third contractor or a framework comes to the region. The free check will tell you honestly whether the numbers stack up for your trade and patch.

Do you help with tenders and frameworks?

We do not write bids, but the website does a lot of the work a PQQ evaluator checks: accreditations they can verify, case studies written like tender answers, sector pages, a capability statement and H&S figures. Our guide to getting onto main contractor supply chains and frameworks sets out how the two fit together.

How do you write case studies without breaching client confidentiality?

We describe the package rather than the client unless you have permission to name them: the sector, the package type, the value band, the programme, the constraints and the outcome. That detail is what buyers and AI tools look for, and it rarely needs a client name to be convincing.

Do you work for lead-generation networks or directories?

No. Those platforms compete with our clients for their own buyers, so we only work for the subcontractors who do the work.

What happens if we decide to leave?

Everything is yours: the website, the domain, the content, the Google Business Profile and the Google Ads account. Website management rolls month to month and Google Ads has no minimum term, so you cancel by email at any time and the next invoice simply does not arrive.

What are schema markup and llms.txt, and do we need them?

Schema is structured data that states facts about your business, such as your accreditations, address and trades, in a form search engines and AI tools read directly. llms.txt is a plain-text summary of your site written for AI assistants. Almost no subcontractor sites have either, which is why the ones that do get cited. Both come as standard. The glossary explains these and other terms in plain English.

The questions, answered

How much does a subcontractor website cost with Groundproof?

From £3,999, with no hidden fees and the figure agreed before we start. That covers up to 25 trade and service pages, an accreditations page with every certificate written out so Google and AI tools can read them, a downloadable capability statement, up to ten regional pages, up to 15 case studies, up to five sector pages, an H&S evidence page, a tender route with document upload and the technical setup that helps Google and AI tools read your site, your Google Business Profile, analytics, call tracking and IP tracking. Copy is written for you, hosting and your domain are free for the first year, and the site is live in six weeks. See pricing.

What do the Sprint and the monthly plan cost and what is the minimum term?

The Foundations Sprint is £999, one-off, paid on booking and credited against a build if you upgrade within six months. Website management is from £299 a month, rolling from the start, cancel at any time. Google Ads management is an add-on from £399 a month with account set-up included in the first month, ad spend paid to Google separately and no minimum term, though we recommend six months to judge results fairly.

Which trades do you work with?

Groundworks and civils, structural steel and fabrication, M&E, roofing, cladding and envelope, demolition, enabling works and scaffolding, and fit-out, finishes and specialist contractors. See who we help.

What is the Tender Check?

A free three-minute check that scores your website on the four stages buyers and AI tools go through before they shortlist you: Found, Verified, Evidenced and Contacted. Sixteen questions, scored out of 32, with a copy by email and a personal review from us within one working day. Run it here.

What is AI visibility?

Being named when someone asks ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity or Google AI for a subcontractor in your trade and region. AI tools recommend businesses they can verify from the open web: accreditations written out, consistent business details across the registers, case studies with values and pages that answer specific questions. We build those signals in and keep them current.

Do you guarantee rankings or AI mentions?

No. Nobody honest can, because Google and the AI tools make the decision. We commit to the work, to measuring it and to telling you plainly when it is not moving.

Who owns the website and the Google Ads account?

You do, from day one. Your domain, hosting, WordPress logins and Ads account are in your name. Everything we build is yours from day one, so you are always in control.

How long does a website take?

Six weeks from the first call, with the date agreed before we start and the certificates, photos and your answers gathered in the first fortnight. Most delays are waiting for certificates and project details.

Do you need us to write anything?

No. A 30-minute call and a short questionnaire give us what we need. You review and correct every page before it goes live.

Will the site mention our package values?

Where you can, yes. A QS pricing a £400k package wants to see you have delivered at that value, and a value band on each case study is what proves it without disclosing a client’s rate. If you would rather not publish values at all, we say so clearly and prove scale through programme, sector and main contractor instead.

Where are you based and do you cover my area?

North Shields, working with subcontractors across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland by phone, email and Teams. See areas we cover.
